The Studies of Dentistry
The structure of the dental medicine program is divided into a preclinical and a clinical study section, each lasting at least five semesters. In addition, there is a so-called examination semester for the state examination. This structure is defined nationwide by the dental licensing regulations. In total, the standard period of study in dentistry is five and a half years throughout Germany.
The dental licensing regulations also stipulate that three state examinations must be taken during the course of dental studies. The examinations in the individual subjects are usually held in groups of up to four and are usually oral or oral-practical.
If you have completed both sections of the study program and successfully passed all three examinations, you have acquired the "tools" to practice dentistry and can start directly in the profession after receiving your license to practice.

The standard period of study for the dentistry degree programme comprises five academic years, with each year consisting of two semesters.
In the first two years of study, you will study dentistry together with the students on the model degree programme in human medicine; in addition, as a dentistry student, you will attend individual dentistry-specific courses. From the third year onwards, the focus is on dentistry with its courses that impart knowledge, skills and attitudes for later clinical work with patients.
In Germany, the study of dentistry is regulated nationwide by the Dental Licensing Regulations (ZApprO). As a state examination programme, dentistry studies are completed with a state examination. This dental examination is divided into three sections. Accordingly, the Düsseldorf dentistry curriculum consists of three study sections.
